Basic BBQ Sauce Recipe

This is your Basic BBQ Sauce Recipe. You can add other ingredients to this "base" to get the desired taste that fits your personality.

  • 1 large finely chopped onion,
  • 3 chopped and de-seeded jalapeno peppers,
  • ½ cup of ketchup,
  • ½ cup of water,
  • ¼ cup of vinegar,
  • ¼ cup of olive oil,
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice,
  • 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce,
  • 1 tablespoon of Louisana Hot sauce,
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar or honey,
  • 1 tablespoon of hot or mild mustard (whatever you prefer),
  • 3 teaspoons of liquid smoke,
  • ½ teaspoon of cayenne powder,
  • 2 stalks of celery, cut in short lengths
  • salt and pepper to your taste.


In a saucepan mix together all ingredients until well blended and then bring them to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 20 to 30 minutes. Strain and let cool and thicken.

Tip: the celery pieces are delicious!
